The Trefriw and Llanrhychwyn Joint Burial Board bought the land for Trefriw Cemetery from the Earl of Ancaster in 1893, although the records show that the first burial took place in 1880. Trefriw Community Council took over the cemetery in 1987. It acts as the Burial Authority and is responsible for management and maintenance of the burial ground.

In 2011, with little space remaining for future burials, the Community Council bought an adjacent piece of land to extend the cemetery. During the next year or two, we plan to develop this area into a worthy neighbour of the original cemetery. The council will be seeking grants to fund most of this expense. Look out for more news in the future.

Access

Trefriw & Llanrhychwyn Public Cemetery is always open to pedestrians. There is a car park next to the cemetery for people attending funerals and tending graves.

Buying a grave

Because of the current shortage of land for burials the Council has decided not to sell graves in advance any more, but if you need to buy a burial or cremation plot or put up a memorial to a loved one, please contact the Clerk. For more information about buying a grave click here.
